An American (English) remake of the French series HPI (2021)
Plot
Follows Morgan, a single mother of three, and how her exceptional mind allows her to help solve a crime by presenting evidence during her shift as a janitor in the police department. Despite having a very high IQ, excellent memory, and extensive knowledge of mysteries, Morgan makes a number of basic legal mistakes that anyone who has ever watched a TV law show would know not to make. In episode one, for example, she obtains a document from a locked safe in a suspect/victim’s law office that would never be admissible in court—evidence obtained illegally.
Ok, the show starts off great, with Kaitlin Olson giving a solid performance
It also cannot be used to obtain other evidence—a violation of the legal doctrine of “fruit of the poisonous tree.” In episode 2, she has to be reminded to put on gloves before touching evidence at a crime scene, and in episode 3, she takes all of the documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of custody and rendering everything she took inadmissible in court. HPI Remake (2021). The show is very similar to the TBS show Monk, where a borderline Asperger’s helps the police solve crimes.
In this episode, she is overly complacent and makes things difficult
Again, the show is solid so far, but not as quirky or enjoyable to watch as Monk, but it is enjoyable to watch. Episode 3 is where it really derails and I hope episode 4 really improves. She takes evidence from the police station, handles the evidence, and contaminates it.
Tactics that would invalidate the case
REPERCUSSIONS? Zero… It’s distracting how annoying she is in this episode.
Again, I hope this improves in episode 4
She shows almost no signs of self-awareness or remorse for her actions.
