Plot
In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, ends up landing a high-profile job she is ill-suited for, with tectonic implications for her marriage and political future. The producers convinced both the American and British governments to allow them to use real-life locations as filming locations for the series, including the still-new American embassy (in Nine Elms) which opened in 2018.
The only location not available was Winfield House, the actual residence of the American ambassador
Britain allowed filming inside the Foreign Secretary’s office, an honor rarely bestowed on any film or movie production, especially an American one. Although it is accurately described as the largest residential area (11 acres) in London, aside from Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming.
Appeared at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024)
I have to admit, I wasn’t planning on watching The Diplomat, but after hearing so many good things and reading all the positive reviews, I thought I’d give it a shot. I’m so glad I did because it was amazing.
I was hooked from the first episode
I’m actually surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Even though Keri Russell was amazing on The Americans, I thought it was more of a writing thing than an acting thing, so I wasn’t sure if she and Rufus Sewell could hold up a series as leads, but they absolutely do, they’re both fantastic here.
I could definitely see this series winning some awards
The chemistry between those two is what makes this show so good.
